If I had to pick one fashion crush, it would totally be Yigal Azrouel. Not only is he completely gorgeous, but my junior prom dress was from his first collection in 1998, which I bought at a great store around the corner from my apartment on the upper east side called Nellie M. (it has since vanished, a victim of the recession).

His clothes are to die for, and his fluid, feminine draping has given him the kind of staying power other designers dream of. Read on for his inspiration and learn why we are totally putting this amazing leather jacket on our "can't live without it this fall" list. --Lara

1. What inspired your Fall 2010 collection? 

The FW10 collection was a fresh take on sportswear and tailoring inspired both by menswear and an architectural, minimal approach.

2. How did you go about designing the prints in this collection?

I always work with my team to find prints that feel modern, whether it’s inspired by a book, artwork, vintage scarves, African textiles made into artwork, really the inspiration can come from anywhere.  From there we work on layout, scale, and color palettes

3. Which part of the design process do you like the best?

Draping. When a new fabric that we ordered comes in, it’s a new experience every time.  I can’t wait to break off a piece (yes, literally pull off a yard or two) and start to drape on a mannequin.

4. How is the Yigal Azrouel brand growing in 2010 (2011)?

It’s been a busy year for me. For Fall ’10 I expanded my handbag assortment and scarves, and will have my first shoe collection for Spring ’11, which has been something I have been wanting to do for years.  I also launched a contemporary brand called Cut25 which is hitting stores now.

5. If you could sit front row at a fashion show for any designer in history, who would it be and why?

Can I pick one from every decade?  I think early YSL is something I would have liked to have experienced.  I was at a Christian Dior couture show, under Gianfranco Ferre, in the mid-90’s and it was definitely an inspiring moment.

6. How do you celebrate finishing a collection?

I like to be surrounded by the people that helped make it happen, my team.  It really takes so much energy and dedication from a lot of people to make a collection happen.  Then get out of town to clear my head since a new collection is always right around the corner.  Not sure where I will be going after the NY shows in September but I hope it involves surfing.

7. If a girl was going to purchase her first Yigal piece, what would you want it to be? 

Definitely one of my signature washed leather jackets.  The newest version is in cognac and is convertible into a jacket, vest and cropped bolero.  There’s a lot of value because each shape looks cool.

Perhaps you've noticed that this week, RTR got just a little prettier. Maybe its the elegant American sportswear from Calvin Klein Collection or maybe its the feminine beauty embodied in the gorgeous Nina Ricci, but either way we can't stop staring at our beautiful new fall collections. The Emmys are over and other than Modern Family, the theme of the night was definitely navy blue. It came as something of a surprise that this always stylish color dominated the red carpet, but almost everyone who came out in the blue stunned and amazed.

Both Lea Michele and Julie Bowen looked spectacular in their one shoulder navy gowns.

For some of that asymetric navy glamour, try this Christian Sirano or this Catherine Malandrino.

In fact, blue was so prevalent it was almost difficult to find another trend. But then we let the sea of sparkle take us over. Dazzling elegantly, several small screen sirens made a statement in some gorgeous sequins.

Claire Danes is simple and flawless while Heather Morris from Glee makes it a bit more exciting with a black belt to break it up.

What inspired your Fall 2010 collection?

Fall 2010 was inspired by the dynamic sport of motorcross and an American classic – Hells Angels, drawing in energy and graphic elements juxtaposed with intricate draping and detailed tailoring.

Which part of the design process do you like the best?

While I do love sketching and coming up with new silhouettes, there is nothing like seeing the looks come together to form a complete collection and have them walk down the runway.  It is months of hard work and to see the vision come to life is incredible.

Where do you see the Prabal Gurung brand in ten years?

In ten years I hope to continue developing a lifestyle brand that offers all kinds of product categories from accessories to interior.  I hope that the opportunities are endless as my brand continues to evolve.

If you could sit front row at a fashion show for any designer in history, who would it be and why?

Coco Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent. I would say that’s self-explanatory.

How do you celebrate finishing a collection?

Each season I go with my team, supporters and dearest family and friends to a great dinner to celebrate and re-hash.

If a girl was going to purchase her first Prabal Gurung piece, what would you want it to be?

That is almost like asking if I have a favorite finger.  I love them all the same but each for a different reason.  Ultimately I want my consumers to buy the silhouette they look and feel the most comfortable in. 

Which fabrics are your favorite to work with?

I love experimenting with new fabrics and fabric combinations but I would have to say my favorites are the rich, silk gazars and duchess satins that I learned to love from my days at Blass.

1 Mad Men Season 4

Everyone talks the talk about Don Draper but RTR's heart is with Roger Sterling. Last September, Jenn practically verbally assaulted John Slattery on the street when he tried to steal her cab on the way to the Doo.ri fashion show. After making amends when he politely offered up the cab, Jenn, Lara & John shared a cab ride of bliss uptown and chatted about Mad Men, Mona, and memories of SATC. Here's what Blaire has to say about today's outfit "I love romps even though they're a pain to use the restroom in but this is one of my newer purchases from Topshop including my insanely comfortable black suede wedges. Belt, gold chain, and flower clip are vintage. Everyday there has to be a piece of Chanel on me somewhere...I went double the Chanel today with my long chain drawstring bag and pendant chain bracelet! Always mix and match. The best outfits come from not thinking about it!"

If we've been a little quiet on RTR Insider, it's only because it's been a little crazy at the RTR offices! Today we packed up and moved around the corner to our new 9,000 sqft space in the West Village. We couldn't be happier with our new digs, and with our office and warehouse side by side, the whole RTR family is all together, making it easier for everyone on our team to focus on our #1 priority - creating the most amazing experience possible for all of our wonderful customers! Kelly Ripa is one of those celebrities that seems kinda normal despite the fact that she’s ridiculously gorgeous, fitter than fit, and has a beautiful, seemingly perfect family. She dresses cute, always smiles, and we’ve never heard a bad thing about her. What inspired your Fall 2010 collection?

For Fall 2010 I wanted to focus on tailoring and draping. I love the combination of the two and I wanted to explore how they could exist together. I have a natural tendency toward draping so adding a more rigid construction allows me to see softer shapes from a different angle.

How did you go about designing the prints in this collection?

There were also two types of prints to help with the marriage of tailoring and draping. A softer, more painterly print and a geometric, linear print. The softer prints started off as watercolors, which were then developed digitally, and the geometric print was inspired by a glass mosaics. This season we wanted the prints to be more about representing surface textures.

Which part of the design process do you like the best?

The part I like the most is the beginning of the collection. The start of the collection is when it is just about developing ideas. I love researching different artists, draping new shapes, sketching anything that comes to mind, or re-developing an idea that never had the time to be completed. The beginning of the collection is a series of endless possibilities, which is why it is the process I enjoy the most.

How is the Doo.Ri brand growing in 2010?

We continue to grow our secondary line and hope to add accessories to the mix.

If you could sit front row at a fashion show for any designer in history, who would it be and why?

It would be the first collection either Yohji or Comme Des Garcons debuted in Paris. These two designers were and still are some of my favorites. When I was a student I loved their complete aesthetic - the color black and the exaggerated proportions. It was a strange type of beauty that I instantly fell in love with. I still consider myself a student of Fashion and still respect and admire the two designers, yet why I admire them now is for their amazing pattern work. As a designer who always began by draping I am amazed that all of their work is flat patterned.

How do you celebrate finishing a collection?

We normally do an after show dinner with staff. There are so many people involved in making a collection come together and the process can be intense and stressful- especially on very little sleep. Having an after party dinner is a way to thank everyone who has worked so hard as well as blow off steam- but also to celebrate no more working weekends and sleepless nights!

If a girl was going to purchase her first Doo.Ri piece, what would you want it to be?

A signature draped Jersey dress.

Monday night we celebrated Rent The Runway on Campus at The Gates with more than 200 fabulous young attendees. Stylish collegiates from campuses as close as NYU and as far as UCLA came out to admire RTR jewels, enjoy cupcakes from Nana’s Dessert Kitchen, dance to DJ Sprung, devour Pop Chips, and share ideas for bringing RTR to their campus! The girls got a first peek at some of our newest styles with dresses for every campus occasion - rush events, formals, parties, and date nights. At the end, every guest took home a canvas gift bag provided by ALIOMI.

Many of our current superstar campus reps came to share the RTR love and spread the enthusiasm about Rent The Runway on Campus. We are hoping to find some more ambassadors who are passionate about Rent The Runway and want to bring our accessible designer fashion to their campus.
